Google NoteBookLM can generate podcast episodes with two virtual hosts using only documents provided by users. It has already been used by Spotify Wrapped to provide 2024 audio summaries to users in the United States. Now Google is also introducing a new Daily Listen feature that produces 5-minute podcast episodes based on favorite news topics with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
Daily Listen is accessed through the Google app on Android and iOS devices. Podcasts are automatically produced by Daily Listen by looking at the history of topics that users often follow. A “Made for you” widget will be visible with Daily Listen accessed by pressing it.
The audio player interface will be displayed on the screen with the podcast transcript also being readable. Like listening to a regular podcast, there are control buttons to pause/start the audio and also skip forward/backward.
With this podcast-style summary, news can be delivered in a short time without the user reading it themselves. On the negative side, the website that is the source of news will no longer receive clicks from users and will not be able to generate revenue. If you produce daily podcasts, Daily Listen will also threaten your source of revenue.
The Daily Listen feature is only available to Android and iOS users in the United States at this time.
