Design and Screen

We received the Honor Magic7 Pro in Lunar Shadow Gray. Although only using a silver hue that is seen decorating almost the entire space, Honor wisely matched this color with additional minimalist decorations that enhance the luxury of the device. The entire device highlights the modern minimalist concept and Honor is seen emphasizing practicality and user comfort.

It is also equipped with a premium glass finish but does not easily trap dirt. This finish seems to show Honor's increasing confidence as one of the leading manufacturers of premium smartphones.

The front and back panels have a slight curve evenly at all corners of the screen. The aluminum frame is flatter and thicker, making the holding experience feel better. The large camera bump on the back houses the camera sensor arrangement in a 2 x 2 grid with a flash that is completely covered in glass. It looks neat with only the Matrix Camera branding in the middle of the camera module. Although the camera bump is large, it is not too heavy with consistent stability throughout the period of use.

The right side houses the power button and audio slider. While the Nano-sized SIM card slot, USB-C port and speaker can be found on the bottom of the device. Stereo speakers with another upper grille make the audio throw to the sides. There is a good balance between the downward-firing speakers and the upper-firing speakers. Audio can also be heard clearly with clear vocals. There is no Dolby Atmos support instead it is replaced with the DTX Ultra system for a more immersive experience.

The lack of a 3.5mm audio jack is also not surprising but the addition of an infrared emitter provides an interesting added value. It can be programmed as a remote control to control smart appliances such as televisions and air conditioners at home. NFC support is also provided for cashless payments. In addition, it has an IP68/69 waterproof rating, thus competing with other devices.

The screen is a 6.8-inch OLED with an aspect ratio of 20:9. The 1.5K resolution used means it is still the same as the previous generation. HDR capabilities and 1800nits brightness allow the device's screen to be used without problems in various types of lighting. Various other screen settings are also provided for better content quality improvement.

The screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth animation transitions. All the elements used, however, are not new, but Honor has been using them since the Magic4 Pro device. It is only certain that they are given continuous improvements to remain relevant in today's market.

The video viewing experience on the Magic7 Pro screen is satisfactory with great color balance. Deep blacks with sufficient brightness work well. Stereo speakers with a built-in subwoofer are also supported, making it one of the best screens ever tested. The screen also features seven levels of protection in an effort to protect the health of users' eyes. The fingerprint scanning and face scanning functions are provided and can work quickly.

Hardware and Software

With the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with 12GB RAM memory and 512GB internal storage, the device truly offers powerful performance. This combination makes the Magic7 Pro one of the flagship devices that needs attention. In fact, it offers interesting advantages that give competition, especially in terms of performance and AI capabilities.

Honor promises four years of OS updates and five years of security for this device. Several benchmark tests were also conducted with the device scoring 2,128,615 points in Antutu 3D. Geekbench 6 recorded 3030 points in single-core and 8,745 points in multi-core tests. In addition, 1290/1391/2203 for total points in Geekbench AI.

Actually, I have never tested a device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but my experience with a chip like the Mediatek Dimensity 9400 on the Oppo Find X8 Pro is enough to give an idea of the performance offered by such a high-class chip. The experience of using the device certainly feels very smooth overall.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite offers quite good performance and power efficiency. It provides a smooth experience on the Magic7 Pro that I tested. Through it, I was able to perform daily tasks without any lag. The situation improves when 12GB of RAM is used to ensure that each application can run smoothly even during multi-tasking. At the same time, high-graphics games can also be played without any problems.

However, I noticed that the device started to heat up significantly when used continuously to take pictures, perform benchmark tests and play games. In reality, I have also received a 'phone is too hot' warning and asked to let it cool down a bit before continuing to use it. This is to prevent unwanted events such as the device stopping and applications failing to function suddenly. Then it affects the device's performance.

Optimization between software and good interface also plays a big role in ensuring smooth operation of the device. Magic7 Pro uses MagicUI 9.0 based on Android 15. The improved interface design not only makes the user experience more efficient but also easier.

It also offers interesting smart AI features such as AI Deepfake Detection technology. This feature helps protect users from deepfake videos that may be used to deceive or spread false information.

AI Magic Portal 2.0 also brings significant improvements by replacing the Circle to Search function with the more versatile Circle to Anything. It not only allows me to quickly find information but also perform various other tasks such as taking notes, finding locations, managing applications and more using circular motions. MagicOS 9.0 also comes with the Google Gemini application which makes the device more versatile where users can write, analyze and create images through it.

AI Notes in MagicUI 9.0 is more practical for more efficient note management. It uses AI capabilities to automatically categorize notes, making the search process easier and more efficient. In addition, it can also remind me of important information recorded in past notes, making me always track daily tasks.

It is also equipped with useful AI Summary and AI Minutes features. Where I can quickly summarize long documents using the AI Summary function. Meanwhile, AI Minutes uses AI to organize and manage meeting minutes more efficiently, making it easier to refer to in the future.

There is also Magic Avatar which uses AI technology to create realistic-looking avatars based on the user's character. AI Face to Face Translation has also been improved and now supports up to 13 languages including Bahasa Malaysia, Korean, Japanese and others. The addition of these languages also makes communication processes involving different languages easier. In addition, it also supports Chat Interpreter similar to Samsung devices, allowing users to chat in multiple languages in real time without obstacles.

Camera and Image Quality

The tri-camera setup is still maintained in this new generation with a 50MP (wide) + 200MP (periscope telephoto) + 50MP (ultra wide) setup with OIS. The device's periscope telephoto sensor also supports 3X optical zoom and 100X digital. Most of the shooting modes such as Night, Aperture, Portrait, Photo, Video and Pro can be easily accessed on the camera interface.

The camera can also record 4K/60fps video with a 21:9 aspect ratio screen mode. There is also the Harcourt image profile previously used on their 200 Pro and Magic V3 devices. In addition, the Millisecond Falcon Capture function now supports up to 10x zoom capabilities.

The Magic7 Pro's main camera is seen well with a large sensor and aperture. This ability is able to separate objects and backgrounds well and then produce images with a balanced dynamic range. The colors produced are not too saturated or faded, giving satisfactory image results. At the same time, it still maintains a balance in contrast and saturation.

The camera also performs well in low light. Images have low noise even at night and provide clear results. It is equipped with a special Night Mode that should help improve the quality of dim images. But I think the main camera alone is enough for quality results. Images in various focal lengths give interesting results but depend on the zoom distance used. AI Super Zoom technology also allows for clearer shots from a distance of 30 times to 100 times.

The Magic7 Pro's wide camera can also function as a macro sensor for capturing subjects at close range. It also has Harcourt Portrait Mode for more creative portrait shots. The front camera provides good overall performance. There is an option to enable and disable beauty mode as appropriate to give users flexibility in customizing their photos.

Battery And Charging

The device has a third-generation Honor silicon carbon battery with a capacity of 5,850mAh which offers improved performance compared to regular batteries. Performance is seen as satisfactory with the device being able to last all day through SOT exceeding 13 hours in normal use. This involves activities such as browsing the web, scrolling social media, taking photos and playing games. It is also used in conditions that depend on LTE access and 120Hz screen mode all the time. 100W wired charging is provided which can recharge the device's battery in a short time.

What's in the Box

Here's what's included in the box we received:

1 x Honor Magic7 Pro.

1 x 100W Charger Head.

1 x USB-C to USB-A Cable.

1 x Silicone Case.

1 x User Manual.

1 x SIM Ejector.

Conclusion

Magic7 Pro seems to provide a satisfactory experience throughout the review period. One of the strengths is the powerful processor for a smooth user experience. The screen offers good visuals and the 120Hz refresh rate also really works well. Like any device, there are also shortcomings that need to be mentioned. The software used contains a lot of bloated applications that can interfere with the user experience.

There is a problem with the device heating up until a warning is given to stop using it for a while. Overall, the Magic7 Pro is a good choice for those looking for a powerful device. However, it is important to consider some other options and their respective needs before buying it. If you are indeed the owner of the Magic5 Pro and Magic6 Pro devices, there is no need to upgrade to this device.
