KPDN Blocks Over 3600 Piracy Websites Since 2021 Until Last November



In terms of awareness of intellectual property registration in the context of copyright, a total of 3,682 illegal websites that spread pirated content have been blocked since 2021 until November 2024. This was revealed by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in a statement published via Bernama. This operation was carried out by KPDN in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Internet service providers (ISPs).


Its Minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said there was an increase in the number of blocks compared to before due to the strengthening of enforcement against the phenomenon of pirated films in the country. He said, KPDN is committed to eliminating the widespread distribution of digital piracy on the Internet through a new formula that not only reflects their responsibility but also has a positive impact on society.


The government has also launched the Cyber ​​Copyright Enforcement (CyCORE) Program since 2022. The program, which involves cooperation between MCMC, IPS and copyright owners, was created to combat the crime of digital film copyright infringement or digital film piracy on the internet medium. In addition to providing the most effective method in disabling digital film piracy distribution activities in collaboration with strategic partners without involving the judiciary.
