At the end of October last year, we reported that the National Scam Response Centre had said that they had received more than 100 thousand complaints with losses of RM371 million.
Today, during the opening ceremony of the International Regulatory Conference 2025 held in Kuala Lumpur, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that as of December 2024, MCMC had prevented 3.1 billion suspected scam calls and had processed 12 thousand complaints related to scam calls in collaboration with the National Scam Response Centre since 2022.
This follows the State of Scam Report 2024 released in October which said that Malaysians had fallen victim and lost RM54 billion to these scams.
During the tabling of Budget 2025, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim allocated RM20 million to the National Scam Response Centre to further strengthen the agency to combat the threat of scam calls in Malaysia.
