Ray-Ban Meta has already taken the smart glasses market in the United States. Its ability to understand what is being seen makes it a useful virtual assistant when the smartphone is not in hand. Meta will then collaborate with Oakley to launch smart glasses specifically for sports activities, according to Bloomberg.
These smart glasses are being developed using the code name “Supernova 2” and their design is based on Oakley’s Sphaera glasses. The camera on the Supernova 2 will be placed in the middle, allowing it to record video like an action camera. There is no information about other features, but it can be predicted that it will be similar to the Ray-Ban Meta but with a more durable design.
Oakley is under the umbrella of EssilorLuxottica, which also owns Ray-Ban, so the collaboration between the two companies makes sense. This year, several smart glasses are expected to be launched on the market as they are seen as a category that will replace smartphones. Apple is also reported to be developing their version but there is no date when it will be shown to the public.
