TikTok’s future in the US is still unclear as President Trump has only extended the company’s sale date by 75 days if it wants to continue operating. In this situation, Meta is nodding in murky waters by offering a lavish reward to American TikTok users with large followings to move to Instagram.
According to a report by The Information, Instagram will offer TikTok influencers between $10K – $50K (~RM 44K – RM224K) a month to upload videos exclusively on Reels. Despite many migrating to Xiaohongshu last week, the platform still does not allow American influencers to earn money.
The practice of paying influencers and celebrities to use certain platforms is not a new phenomenon. Twitch, Spotify, Vine and YouTube have all invested hundreds of millions of dollars in certain celebrities to offer exclusive content.
