Meta has previously stated that it will move away from using fact-checkers to review fake news shares, and replace them with community notes. Today, sharing more about it, Meta confirmed to Bloomberg that this change only affects the US market for now.
Meta will maintain the use of its fact-checking program outside the US for now, and look to implement community notes in the US, before expanding it globally.
Previously, fact-checkers were used to control the spread of information and fake news through platforms under Meta. However, starting in 2025, Meta announced a transition to the use of community notes like on X, and it will work using community input on the platform.
Given that outside the US, especially Europe, it will receive high resistance and challenges in its implementation, Meta is seen to maintain the use of its fact-checking program for now.
