Microsoft Wants to Invest $80 Billion More to Accelerate AI Technology Development

2024 can be said to be the year where investment in AI technology development is seen as very rapid. Companies such as OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA and others are seen showing the fastest development in this sector in an attempt to develop general AI technology that can be used by everyone.

2025 also seems to show more investment in this sector, with Microsoft saying that they want to invest $80 billion (~RM361 billion) to further accelerate the development of their AI technology.

To this end, Microsoft will build data centers for the purpose of training new AI systems and to launch AI systems with cloud applications around the world. However, more than half of this investment will occur within the borders of the United States, which is also seen to accelerate the adoption of AI technology in their own country.

Microsoft is expected to use NVIDIA services, specifically NVIDIA Blackwell AI graphics cards such as NVIDIA B200 and NVIDIA GB200 to power these data centers, and will be one of NVIDIA's major customers this year. This is quite interesting especially when NVIDIA's AI graphics cards are in very high demand, where their previous Gracer Hopper graphics cards are still being sold in large numbers.

Other AI companies such as OpenAI, xAI, Stability AI and so on are also expected to receive high investments to further accelerate the development of their respective AI technologies so as not to lag behind Microsoft.

For Microsoft, this is seen as the first step to becoming the leading AI company in the United States within the next four years, especially with the rapid development of AI technology that is also happening in China now.
