MOH Approves Sleep Apnea Detection Feature for Apple Watch

The Apple Watch Series 10 is among Apple's new smartwatches to receive a sleep apnea detection feature. This feature is to help users be aware of problems while sleeping. Although the Apple Watch Series 10 was launched last year and went on sale in Malaysia a month later, the sleep apnea detection feature cannot be used.

This is because Apple wants this feature to be recognized by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM). Recently, the Medical Device Authority under the MOH has approved the apnea detection feature for Apple Watch. This feature will be activated on Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 watches.

However, at this time it is still not certain which version of watchOS 11 will be distributed to activate this feature. The sleep apnea detection feature is a medical software feature, which detects users' breathing problems while sleeping. It uses the Breathing Disturbances or BD metric. It can also detect choking or suffocation problems, frequent waking, tiredness all the time, daytime sleepiness, morning headaches or even detect unstable moods.

The data that is best monitored is for the first 30 days of readings. KKM also explains that this feature is for users who have never been treated or have not received sleep apnea treatment. In addition, they also remind, the sleep apnea notification given by the Apple Watch does not mean that the user has the disease.
