Online crime is a subject that is often discussed because of the increasing number of cases from time to time. Various tactics and modus operandi are used by them to deceive victims. The losses are also not small but some have had to lose their eyes after being deceived by the existing fraud.
Referring to the records of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), more than RM1.5 billion with 35,368 investigation papers opened throughout last year. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the number of cases recorded in 2024 increased sharply from 34,495 cases with a total loss of RM1.22 billion in 2023.
Fahmi also said that at the end of last year, the integrated operation or Op Pedo carried out by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) led to the arrest of 13 suspects in six states. It involved the seizure of approximately 40,000 child and adult sexual abuse materials through the operation.
Meanwhile, Fahmi informed about the Online Safety Campaign Tour which was launched at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) on January 21. It will even be expanded to primary and secondary schools nationwide to ensure a safer online environment for the entire Malaysian community.
