With the launch of the OnePlus 13 series, the OnePlus 13R was also launched together. It is the OnePlus Ace 5 in the Chinese market for the global market, including Malaysia. This device is seen to borrow a lot of the OnePlus 12 specifications but with the OnePlus 13 design.
The OnePlus 13R uses a 6.78-inch screen with the same display technology as the OnePlus 13 such as LTPO 120Hz, ProXDR and Dolby Vision – only the resolution is limited to FHD+. For the chip, it uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the memory is up to 16/512 GB LPDDR5X/UFS 4.0. The device's camera is limited to 50+8+50 Megapixel, without Hasselblad but the new telephoto sensor supports 2x optical zoom.
The device's battery is the same as the OnePlus 13, which is 6000mAh but charging is limited to 80W SuperVOOC. There is no support for 50W AirVOOC wireless charging, but a SuperVOOC charger is provided in the box. The device is now IP65 rated, something that was missing from last year’s OnePlus 12R. Other features like the next-generation Oxygen OS 15 and the new generative AI features found on the OnePlus 13 are also supported on this device.
The OnePlus 13R is an affordable flagship device. Last year the OnePlus 12R was priced at RM3,199, but if the OnePlus 13 can be priced lower than the OnePlus 12 – could the OnePlus 13R be priced below RM3,000? Let’s wait and see.
