OpenAI Still Loses Money Despite ChatGPT Pro Subscription Costing $200 Per Month

Early December, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Pro subscriptions that charge $200 per month. This gives the o1, o1-mini, and even GPT-4o models unlimited. Although the subscription fee is quite high, Sam Altman says it still causes OpenAI to lose money because customers use their Pro accounts more than expected.

When questioned by user X, he said that he set the price for this subscription in the hope that it would generate profit but the opposite happened. OpenAI is currently in the process of changing its status from a non-profit company to a profit-making company.

The funds received from investors are currently being used to continue the company's operations with losses so far estimated at around $44 billion. It is only expected to start turning a profit in 2029.
