Design And Screen

The design of the device is not much different from the pro model which is equipped with a completely flat front and back panel with rounded sides. The concept is not new as Oppo has been using it since the Oppo Reno6. However, of course, it has been given continuous improvements to make it remain relevant in this modern era.

Oppo Reno13 feels suitable for those looking for a compact device due to its smaller size compared to the pro model. The holding experience provides good comfort due to the thin and light design. The back of the device also looks beautiful through the glass panel with a matte finish and does not trap dirt easily.

This is especially true for the Reno13 Luminous Blue color, which really highlights its beauty through the effect of bright light that sparkles around the camera module. It is actually not an LED light like the one offered on the Reno7 and Reno8 F devices, but is produced from Oppo's complex coloring technique. This color also has a rather shiny finish and the texture feels smooth when held.

The same space also houses a medium-sized square-shaped camera module. The tri-camera system is provided with two of them being large in size while the third sensor is smaller and placed next to the LED Flash. Next, a strong aerospace-grade aluminum frame surrounds the device to ensure that the Reno13 does not bend easily.

The standard button layout shows the power button and audio rocker on the right side. The left side does not house any ports and buttons. Infrared emitter support is also provided on the top side along with a grille for stereo speakers. While another speaker can be found on the bottom along with the USB-C port and dual nano SIM tray.

The speaker is capable of providing strong but unbalanced audio. This is because the audio output that shoots to the sides and the bottom sounds louder than the top. Again, the 3.5mm audio jack is not provided as on the Reno13 Pro. But what really steals the show is the IP69 waterproofing capability that should be able to protect the device from high-pressure water damage.

Thus, users don't have to worry if they get caught in the rain or complex daily situations. Other design elements such as the in-screen fingerprint scanner that works well and is sensitive to touch. In addition, it has other biometric systems including face scanning, passwords and pin numbers as additional options that users can take advantage of.

The screen looks clear and beautiful through the 6.59-inch LTPO AMOLED panel used. The 1.5K resolution along with the peak brightness of 4500nits helps make the screen content easily readable in various scenarios. The 120Hz refresh rate provided works well with a responsive scrolling experience without stutter problems. Color reproduction is also seen to be satisfactory with viewing angles that do not cause chronic issues.

Hardware and Software

The Oppo Reno13 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor, 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage, which is quite fast. The combination of processor, memory and internal storage offered is the same as the previous pro model. The closest competitors for the processor chip are the Dimensity 8300 Ultra, Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400e, all of which use 4nm technology.

The storage space is fixed as there is no microSD card slot provided. However, the memory can be expanded virtually via RAM Expension with a size option of up to 12GB RAM. By default, 4GB RAM is enabled and can be disabled if more storage space is important. The benchmark test performed showed a score of 109.1425 points in the Antutu benchmark. Meanwhile, the Geekbench 6 benchmark recorded 1,328 points in the single-core test and 4,054 points in the multi-core test. In addition, 1557/1535/2007 for the score in the Geekbench AI test.

Praise is given to the ability of this device to function well without chronic issues. It is able to carry out every daily task well and there is no problem with application failures that occur. The process of switching between applications also does not cause the same problems as experienced when reviewing the Reno13 Pro device.

Playing games feels satisfying with graphics that can be set to the highest level, especially for the game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The same goes for heavy game categories such as CarX Street which can be played smoothly at medium settings. The process is also assisted by AI Hyperboost technology which makes the game frame rate remain consistently stable. In fact, there is no overheating issue with it only becoming warm for long gaming sessions.

ColorOS 15 based on Android 15 is used in creating an effective user experience. It is equipped with Aurora and Tidal Engine technology for the device to run application animations in parallel, thus ensuring a smooth transition when switching between applications. It also utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) functions to facilitate users in completing various daily tasks.

Among them are AI Summary to summarize long content to be more concise and relevant. AI Speak which allows the device to read content for users to hear without having to look at the screen. The AI Studio application is also added with the AI Motion function to make still images move. AI Writer can also be used to write, edit and correct text automatically.

Aqua Dynamics is now not only customizable but also more similar to Dynamic Island on Apple devices. Finally, the Touch to Share function which allows file sharing like Airdrop between Reno13 and iPhone. However, the sharing process must be done with the O+ Connect application which can be downloaded on iPhone devices.

Camera System

The main camera consists of a 50MP wide sensor (OIS) + 8MP Ultra wide + 2MP depth followed by a 50MP selfie camera. There is no telephoto lens like on the Oppo Reno13 Pro. The camera application displays an easy-to-use interface with shooting options at 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 and full ratios.

In addition, it has the ability to record 4K/60FPS video on both sides of the camera with built-in stabilization that works at 1080P/30FPS. The built-in photography and film simulation mode offering is also provided in the camera application. Also given focus is the Underwater Photography Mode which facilitates the process of capturing images underwater.

The main camera is seen to provide good image quality in most lighting situations. Looking at the attached examples, most of them look sharp with natural color reproduction. Details are also well maintained with minimal noise except for the ultra-wide image results. It also provides built-in AI features that can improve image quality.

The portrait function also provides inconsistent results with imperfect edge detection problems, making the background part fail to be blurred properly.

Battery and Charging

Reno13 is equipped with a 5,000mAh silicon carbon battery that should provide higher energy density in a smaller size. Performance is seen to be satisfactory with the device's ability to last all day through SOT readings reaching 8 hours for normal daily use. Among the activities involved include browsing the web, scrolling social media, taking pictures and playing games for several sessions.

All of these activities also involve the dependence of LTE and WiFi connection access. In addition to being used in a 120Hz screen all the time. 80W SuperVOOC charging also allows the battery to be recharged in less than an hour.

Conclusion

Reno13 is an interesting device with a small difference compared to the pro model. It is also a suitable choice for those looking for a device that can approach the Find X8 series. This is because the Reno device range is a reflection of the Find X in a more affordable price range.

There are also AI-based features in the Find X8 that can be found on this device such as AI Clarity Enhancer, AI Unblur, AI Reflection Remover, Smart Scene, Live Alerts, Touch to Share and others. The overall performance of the device is also satisfactory for various user needs like the Reno13 Pro. The abundance of fat applications and ads is still a major issue that Oppo hopes can provide better initiatives for the future.

PRO

The screen is bright, clear and vivid.

Satisfactory performance in its class.

ColorOS 15 that leverages AI.

Stereo speakers.

IP68/69 waterproof

CONS

No audio jack.

No microSD card support.

Lots of bloated apps and ads.

The 2MP depth sensor is just a gimmick.
