PDRM Uncovers Another Illegal Cryptocurrency Mining Operation



The Royal Malaysian Police today announced that they are collaborating with Tenaga Nasional Berhad to uncover a recent cryptocurrency mining operation that is also suspected of stealing electricity to carry out the activity.


The mining operation was carried out in five shop units in several locations in Dengkil, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi and Putra Perdana, Selangor and is estimated to have started four months ago. Three individuals aged between 30 and 45 years old were also arrested for investigation into the case.


Among the equipment seized were cryptocurrency mining computers estimated to be worth RM121,800, other electronic equipment and two vehicles.


As stated, the group used stolen electricity, and it is estimated that the amount of electricity stolen for the purpose of mining was around RM384,806.


This case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing an offence causing loss and damage.
