During CES 2025, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced that Samsung and Google smartphones in 2025 will offer Qi2 magnetic wireless charging support. In addition, they also announced the presence of the Qi2 Ready product label and the Qi 2.1 standard.
Qi2 is a magnetic wireless charging standard developed by the WPC together with Apple. The latest Qi 2.1 standard is for charging accessories or products without magnetic support. The first example is from Panasonic Automotive with a Qi2 charger that has a moving coil.
With a moving coil, the Qi2 concept itself could become a reality, namely the charger can detect the best position of the device to get the most stable charging experience. It moves using a motor and also sensors. This accessory is said to be most suitable for use in vehicles rather than at home.
At the moment it is still not certain when it will be introduced to the public, but all accessories will have the Qi2 label. For example, the OnePlus 13 and Oppo Find X8 Pro do not have magnets inside the device but have them on the protective case – third-party accessories can sell Qi2 Ready chargers for these two devices. Let's wait and see.
