Rafizi Ramli: Malaysia Will Produce Its Own CPU and GPU Chips in the Next 5-10 Years

If you follow local manufacturing technology news, you must know that Malaysia is one of the few countries in the world that is important in the production, packaging and testing of semiconductor chips.

Global companies such as Intel, AMD, Texas Instruments, Micron and others have local factories, and local companies such as Inari Amertron Bhd, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd and others are responsible for testing and packaging these semiconductor chips.

Speaking at the Malaysia Economic Forum 2025, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said that he hopes that Malaysia's semiconductor industry will be mature enough to start producing semiconductor chips, especially CPU (computer processing chip) and GPU (graphics processing chip) components ourselves in the next five to ten years.

He believes that Malaysia will have enough expertise not only to produce such chips for big companies such as Intel and AMD, but also to manufacture products manufactured by local semiconductor companies, and create a lucrative new revenue stream for the country.

These components are seen as lucrative for the manufacturing country as the demand for them is seen to be increasing every year, especially with the increase in the number of such chips for AI, automotive, computing and other industries, including IoT (Internet of Things).

Malaysia is now seen as an important country for the packaging and testing of semiconductor chips, so with the addition of these components as a manufacturer, Malaysia is seen to become increasingly well-known in the eyes of the world.
