A few days after OpenAI announced the Stargate Project, Reliance, India's largest technology and telecommunications company, has announced that they will also build the world's largest data center.
The company's plan is to build an AI data center in Jamnagar, India that will come with a total power consumption of 3.0 gigawatts. In comparison, Microsoft's largest AI data center that powers their Copilot+ technology in Virginia, USA requires a power supply of 600 megawatts.
What's more interesting about this plan is that although it will come with a very high electricity requirement, Mukesh Ambani, CEO of Reliance, said that their plan is to power this AI data center using sustainable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydrogen energy.
This is a quite different move compared to Google, Amazon and Microsoft who want to use nuclear energy to power their data centers.
Where the Stargate Project is said to cost $500 billion over four years, Reliance's AI data center project will only cost $20-$30 billion.
