Samsung today made a surprise announcement and announced that it will become the largest shareholder of Rainbow Robotics in South Korea, and will place it as a subsidiary under Samsung Electronics. In parallel with this, Samsung also announced that they will continue to drive the development of robot technology.
For information, Rainbow Robotics was founded in 2011, and was the first to develop a robot that can walk on two legs in Korea. Samsung said that by combining Rainbow Robotics’ robotics technology expertise, as well as Samsung’s software and AI technology advantages, they plan to accelerate the development of intelligent robots.
To that end, Samsung will form a new team and office that reports directly to the CEO, called the Future Robotics Office. This division will focus on the development of humanoid robots, and aims to make Samsung also lead in the future robotics technology competition.
