TikTok was given until January 19 to sell its business in the United States after the app was accused of spying on the country’s citizens on behalf of China. TikTok denied the allegations and said it was not interested in selling its business.
Since last weekend, TikTok users in the United States have begun to move to alternative apps like Lemon8 and Xiaohongshu that offer a similar experience. Many said they refused to use the social media platform developed in their own country as a sign of protest against the government.
