TomTom is one of the companies that develops mapping technology and helps drivers on the road. Recently, TomTom has published its latest annual traffic report for 2024.
The latest report takes into account 500 cities in 62 countries. TomTom says the vast majority of cities show a decrease in road speeds – due to several factors, mainly due to high congestion rates.
In Malaysia, George Town recorded the longest travel time for a distance of 10 kilometers, which is 26 minutes 36 seconds, with a congestion rate of 40%. Coming in second place is Kota Bharu, which takes around 22 minutes 30 seconds to travel a distance of 10 kilometers. When compared to 2023, George Town shows a longer travel time, while Kota Bharu shows a reduction in travel time of 20 seconds.
Kuala Lumpur ranks fifth in terms of congestion in Malaysia, taking around 17 minutes 26 seconds to travel a distance of 10 kilometers, with a congestion rate of around 28%.
