Before the pandemic, the company behind WordPress, Automattic, took over Tumblr. Until today, various changes have been made such as an X-like web design, a WordPress-powered platform, and most recently they introduced a feature that could potentially compete with TikTok, Tumblr TV.
Tumblr TV is actually a product from 10 years ago. However, at that time it was a feature to explore various GIF collections. It slowly supported video content and after a long time was made a project under Tumblr Labs – Tumblr TV is now accessible to everyone.
The usage is more or less the same, where users can scroll up and down to change content. Then when scrolling left, the selected content will have a GIF display. For comments, there is a feature called Notes that combines the number of reshared content as well as other users’ comments.
If TikTok Refugees can go to RedNote, who knows if Tumblr TV has any hope of returning to being as active and vibrant as it was 10 years ago? What do you think?
