Honda has been a bit late to offer electric cars (EVs) as it focuses more on hybrid vehicles. Today they announced two EV prototypes, the Honda 0 Saloon and the Honda 0 SUV. This is an update to the two Honda 0 Saloon and Space-Hub prototypes shown a year ago. Both maintain the same design that combines retro 80s elements with a more contemporary interior finish.
The Honda 0 SUV is a model that still looks like a conventional car with a size comparable to the Honda Prologue, their first BEV. The vehicle's steering system is the steer by wire type used on the Cybertruck. The vehicle's steering wheel is also like an airplane steering wheel and not round.
The Honda 0 Saloon looks like an MPV but with an aggressive design similar to a Lamborghini car. At the back there are large rectangular mirrors surrounded by large red LED lights. The Saloon, however, is not equipped with a steer by wire system.
Both vehicles will use the new ASIMO OS operating system that integrates the ECU, self-driving system and vehicle infotainment. Honda aims to have the Honda 0 series have Level 3 self-driving capabilities when it goes on sale.
Honda says these two prototypes will form the basis of an EV that will go on sale in 2026 in the United States first before going global.
