VLC Shows Off Its AI-Powered Subtitle Support

VLC is one of the most popular media players on the Windows operating system. It is used to play various video formats, and has been downloaded over 6 billion times so far.

Most recently, at the CES 2025 event, VLC also took the opportunity to show off a new development in the media player, namely the ability to generate subtitles in real-time. VLC simply said that it uses an open-source artificial intelligence model and did not specify which model.

This model runs on the user's device, and can be used without having to have an internet connection. The subtitles generated in real time can also be translated into the user's preferred language through the support of artificial intelligence.

For now, VLC has not yet shared when this feature will be officially introduced to all users.
