The universal magnetic wireless charging format was introduced by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) in 2023. As of today, apart from the iPhone 12 and above, only HMD Skyline devices support it. Most recently, the WPC has announced two device manufacturers that will finally use Qi2 on their respective devices.
In a press release for the media that the WPC shared in conjunction with the CES 2025 event, they confirmed that Samsung and Google devices in 2025 will support the Qi2 wireless charging feature. The 2025 Galaxy devices that are expected to bring this support are the Galaxy S25 series. While for Google it is likely to be the Pixel 10 series.
Qi offers 7.5W wireless charging power, while Qi2 is 15W which is slightly different from MagSafe which offers 25W power. Wireless charging technology from other manufacturers is also faster, such as Honor with 100W or Oppo/OnePlus with 50W AirVOOC.
