Disney+ Loses 700,000 Subscribers After Price Hike

Disney recently shared their earnings for Q4 2024. According to Variety, Disney+ incurred operating costs of $293 million to generate revenue of $6.07 billion, which is 9% higher than the previous year.

For year-over-year revenue, Disney managed to receive a 5% increase. This is likely because Disney increased the price of Disney+ subscriptions last year. Despite receiving higher profits, more than 700,000 Disney+ subscribers worldwide stopped subscribing. This is said to be a good number because it is lower than analysts' forecasts.

For Hulu, it surprisingly gained 1.6 million subscribers. For 2025, Disney has operating costs of $15 billion to ensure Disney+ and its other streaming products continue to thrive and succeed. Disney CEO Bob Iger is also proud of the decision to increase the price, as the subscription bundle offering is driving more subscribers.

The drastic changes for Disney+ Hotstar are still not disclosed. Let's all hope there are no more price increases in the near future.
