Google has finally allowed users who are not subscribed to the Google One AI Premium plan to upload files to Gemini. This feature has been supported by ChatGPT since June last year, and support for Gemini is greatly appreciated after being limited to paid users for a long time.
For now, Google has not clarified what the limit is for free users. If it follows the same limit in Gemini Advanced, a total of 10 files with each having a maximum size of 100MB can be uploaded. Each uploaded file will then be processed by Gemini for users to ask any questions. Among the things that can be done are generating tables, summarizing, generating charts, creating reports, extracting important data and more.
In addition, in the menu options when the + icon is pressed, uploading files directly from Google Drive or taking pictures with the camera is also supported. Among the files supported are Microsoft Word, TXT, PDF, RTF, CSV, XLS, Google Sheets, C code files, CPP, JAVA, PHP, SQL, and HTML code files. For chart generation, it is only supported on Gemini web if you upload a ledger sheet. Full file support is stated here.
