Garmin has launched its new Tactix 8 rugged watch with several exciting improvements. Among them are two size options, either 47mm equipped with an AMOLED display with up to 16 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. While the larger 57mm model uses an always-on solar display with up to 48 days of battery life.
It is built according to military standards MIL-STD-810 to ensure the watch survives in a variety of challenging conditions including extreme temperatures at high altitudes and low air pressure. It can also be taken diving to a depth of 40 meters via a special built-in button in addition to having a new sensor cover to protect important sensors. In addition, a built-in flashlight is now available on all Tactix 8 models that provides adjustable brightness levels.
With a built-in speaker and microphone, any calls can be made directly from the watch if necessary. Voice commands can also be done for some functions and can be activated without the need for a smartphone connection. There is also an Applied Ballistics function that is suitable for long-range shooting activities based on the characteristics of rifles, bullets and various environmental conditions. Users can also see the contours of the earth through the TopoActive function.
Other functions that complement this watch include Pulse Ox, Body Battery Energy Monitoring, Jet Lag Adviser, Advanced Sleep Monitoring, Nap Detection and more. Tactix 8 also has an ECG that can help users record their heart patterns and check for early signs of atrial fibrillation.
It is also suitable for use by pilots because it is equipped with a Direct-To-Navigation feature that allows them to find a route to a nearby airport. Tactix 8 is sold starting at $2,299 (~RM10,207) (47mm), $2,499 (~RM11,096) (51mm) and $2,799 (~RM12,427) (51mm Elite).
