HP Acquires Humane AI Pin Manufacturer

HP has acquired Humane, the company that makes AI Pin, for $116 million (~RM 516 million). The AI Pin, which is marketed as a physical artificial intelligence (AI) device, failed to meet sales targets with issues not only in the software but also in the short-lived battery life and the projector system that is difficult to use outdoors.

With this purchase, HP now owns the intellectual property of the AI Cosmos platform, the cosmOS operating system, more than 300 patents and all of Humane's employees. The AI Pin will cease to operate starting January 28, 2025. Customers who purchased it can request a refund if it is still within 90 days of purchase. For those with a service subscription, money will also be refunded. All refund application processes must be completed by February 27.

Humane founders Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno will lead the new HP IQ division that will integrate Humane technology into personal computer products, printers and teleconferencing equipment manufactured by HP.
