After announcing its plans to end its third-party fact-checking service in January 2025, its replacement, the Community Notes feature, has now been more widely publicized. Users can now join the waitlist to be among those who will try the feature on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads when it launches in the coming months.
Meta also shared how the feature will work. It said that Community Notes will be available on almost all updates uploaded to Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Users will then be able to write notes of up to 500 words, at the same time including a link to the actual source for further reference for the public.
The feature will also be introduced in stages, starting with users in the United States who must be 18 years old and have a registered account for more than six months. Meta has not yet given a specific period for its launch, but it could launch in the coming months. Meta previously began testing the feature on Threads.
