Proton Begins Development of Malaysia's First EV Assembly Plant in Tanjung Malim



The Proton e.MAS 7 has been on the road for the past few weeks and to strengthen the electric vehicle industry in Malaysia, today Proton announced the development of Malaysia's first EV assembly plant in Tanjung Malim.


With this plant, Proton aims to be able to produce 20,000 units of electric cars per year and the first phase of this plant is targeted to be completed by the end of 2025. After that, the second phase of this plant will be able to increase the production capacity of electric cars to 45,000 units per year and the cars assembled at this plant will be sold in Malaysia and also in overseas markets.


The development of this plant is also one of the important points for the development of the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjung Malim which will strengthen the National Automotive Policy. The factory is also expected to assemble Proton's next electric cars, likely the e.MAS 3 and e.MAS 5.


With this new factory, Proton also expects to create over 200 new jobs in the EV industry, as well as the development of other local automotive vendors as they supply electric car components.
