Artificial intelligence (AI) data centers have a bad reputation for using a lot of electricity and water to run their operations. In Neom, Saudi Arabia, a sustainable AI data center will be operational by 2028 and will also be net-zero because it uses power sources generated using wind and solar.
It will be built in the Oxagon industrial area built on the surface of the sea. The data center is needed because Oxagon will be an industrial center that uses robotics, self-driving vehicles, and connected devices to increase the productivity of the factories operating within it.
The project, built in collaboration with the DataVolt firm, will cost $5 billion (~RM 22.3 billion) with the data center requiring 1.5-gigawatts of electrical power. In addition to the floating industrial city, Neom will also be the site of a 170-kilometer building, the longest suspended swimming pool, and the world's highest football stadium as tourist attractions in the Saudi Arabian country.
