Shortly after former Sonos CEO Patrick Spence resigned last month, it was reported that Sonos would begin the process of laying off around 200 employees.
Interim CEO Tom Conrad issued a statement on the matter after telling employees at the company that if they had received an email about the layoffs, they would be asked to meet with human resources to discuss their severance package.
Meanwhile, those who were not affected by the layoffs will also be sent an email saying that they will not be laid off.
Conrad said that this restructuring was necessary because he found that Sonos as a company was too bureaucratic and that it was becoming difficult to collaborate and share ideas with each other.
Because of this, their Product division organization, including Hardware, Software, Design, Quality and Operations, will be reorganized and will not be subject to the product division so that technology development within the company is more manageable.
Meanwhile, the company's projects will be streamlined so that they don't develop too many projects, some of which will be abandoned. In fact, their Android TV box announced yesterday almost became one of them.
Sonos will reportedly give severance packages directly proportional to how long its employees have been with the company. If they are eligible for the first quarter 2025 bonus, it will also be given to them.
