Sonos Reportedly to Launch Android TV Box

2024 has not been a good year for Sonos due to various issues with their new smartphone app that led to the company's CEO resigning at the insistence of the board. 2025 may be the year Sonos forays into the new product category with The Verge reporting that they will launch their first TV box.

The TV box with the codename Pinewood is being developed as a streaming box with the Android operating system. However, the interface used will be different from Google TV to offer a more attractive user experience. The design will be boxy with a taper on the front. This is almost the same as the Google TV Streamer launched last year.

Among the features supported is a local content search hub for various installed streaming apps. This is similar to the feature offered by the JustWatch app.

It will also come with a physical remote control that is not offered on their audio products. Finally, it also supports the Sonos Voice feature allowing full voice control. When launched, Pinewood will be priced between $200-$400, making it one of the most expensive TV boxes on the market.
