WhatsApp Confirms Israeli Malware Company Hacked Its Users

Recently, it was reported that a spokesperson from Meta, which is responsible for its WhatsApp messaging platform, confirmed that a number of users of the service had been hacked by Paragon Solutions, an Israeli malware company.

Reuters, which reported on the matter, said that WhatsApp had detected that Paragon Solutions had hacked around 90 users of the messaging app in at least 24 countries.

The individuals affected by the hack reportedly included prominent journalists and many members of the public, and it is not known why these hacking incidents occurred. WhatsApp also confirmed that among the individuals affected by the hacking attack was part of the Canadian internet watchdog group Citizen Lab.

What is even more terrifying about this hack is that the hacked users were sent a digital document file that did not need to be opened. After it was automatically downloaded to the user's device, it activated itself, and the details contained in the device could be sent directly to the hacker's server.

Meta said that they will continue to monitor this situation, and will improve the security of their platform to prevent this from happening again.
