After Phones, Tablets and Cars, Xiaomi Now Produces “Bulletproof Watermelons”

Since its founding in 2010 with the launch of the MIUI operating system. A year later the first phone was sold and since then they have offered tablets, clocks, TVs, washing machines, CCTV cameras, water filters, power banks, air conditioners and electric cars. Next on Xiaomi’s list of successes is producing “bulletproof watermelons”.

This bulletproof watermelon is not a product that is sold but rather just a fruit coated with the same layer used on Xiaomi’s SU7 car battery. In a video shared by Xiaomi on Weibo, CEO Lei Jun drops a bulletproof watermelon from the sixth floor of a car factory. The fruit does not break and explode but absorbs the impact.

The layer that coats the SU7 battery pack, according to Lei Jun, is tear, scratch and puncture resistant compared to the PVC layer used on other vehicle battery packs. Therefore, SU 7 owners do not need to worry about the battery suffering damage that could cause a fire if the vehicle is involved in an accident.

When asked by netizens whether watermelons can still be eaten after falling from the seventh floor of a building, Lei Jun joked that he didn't know because it can't be cut even with an axe.
