Boston Dynamic Atlas Robot Now Can Crawl and Spin Wheels

The Boston Dynamic Atlas robot was updated last year with a brand new design and has more joints than the original version. Previously, it already had the ability to dance, jump, climb stairs and do somersaults like a human acrobat. The latest update to the Atlas is the ability to spin wheels, kneel and even crawl.

Atlas is taught to do all these new actions by watching videos of people doing them themselves and by reinforcement learning. To give it these new movements, Boston Dynamics is collaborating with the Robotics and AI Institute (RAI). Despite Atlas's increased capabilities, Boston Dynamics does not yet have plans to offer it commercially.
