China Wants to Announce Policy to Promote the Use of RISC-V Architecture-Based Chips

China is now reportedly looking at announcing a policy to expand and increase the use of RISC-V-based chips in the country. This is also seen as a step to overcome dependence on Western technology.

RISC-V is an open source technology in designing chip architectures, which can also be used in devices such as smartphones, as well as servers. Various parties are ready to develop RISC-V-based chips, including in Malaysia itself by USM. Previously, Qualcomm and several parties have also established a firm to promote the RISC-V architecture.

China is said to be in the process of drafting a policy, and may announce it as early as this month. RISC-V with open source offerings is expected to be an alternative to technologies such as x86 and Arm.
