Meta Unveils Aria Gen 2 Smart Glasses



Five years ago Project Aria was announced with this prototype smart glasses that became the basis for the Ray-Ban Meta which sold over a million units last year. Today Meta is showing off the Aria Gen 2 which will undoubtedly be the basis for the next generation Ray-Ban Meta.


The Aria Gen 2 is equipped with an RGB camera, a 6-DOF SLAM camera, an eye tracking camera, GPS, a barometer, a magnetometer and a spatial microphone. When all these new sensors are matched with Meta AI, the Aria Gen 2 will be able to understand what the user is looking at better.


In addition, there is a pulse sensor on the nose pad so that the user's health can be tracked. The microphone has also been improved so that it can distinguish the user's voice from that of the people around them. The open-ear speaker system has also been improved to offer a better audio experience.


In several studies conducted with the Aria Gen 2, it has been used as a vision aid for the disabled. It has also been used to train robots that analyze human movement. Meta will offer Air Gen 2 developer kits to business partners in the coming months. Interested researchers can also express their interest with Meta.
