Microsoft Malaysia West Cloud Region Cloud Data Center to Be Operational in Q2 of This Year

In 2021, Microsoft announced that they would be developing a regional cloud data center or named Microsoft Cloud Region in this country. Microsoft has apparently confirmed that this data center will begin operations soon.

Named Malaysia West Cloud Region, it will give customers in Malaysia full access to services such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365 and Power Platform with low latency.

The Malaysia West Cloud Region data center will reportedly be operational in the second quarter of this year in Greater Kuala Lumpur, and is expected to generate revenue of $10.9 billion within four years after the data center is operational, and will create 37,575 new job opportunities according to an IDC report, of which 5700 of these jobs are job opportunities for professionals in the IT industry.

This Cloud Region will also reportedly consist of three data centers that will follow local and international data storage standards, where all Malaysian data will be stored in the Malaysia West Cloud Region server machines.

The opening of the Malaysia West Cloud Region is also part of Microsoft's $2.2 billion investment announced in the middle of last year. Late last year, Microsoft also introduced the AllForMyFuture program which aims to equip 800,000 Malaysians with the ability to use IT technologies by the end of 2025.
