Muhammad, Abdullah, Abdul, Nur, Siti and Nurul Among the Most Registered Names – JPN

According to the Director-General of the National Registration Department (JPN), Badrul Hisham, names such as Muhammad, Abdullah, Abdul, Nur, Siti and Nurul continue to be the top choices of parents in Malaysia. At the same time, they are among the most registered names at the National Registration Department (JPN) until March 26, 2025.

These names are often chosen because they symbolize Islamic identity and Malay culture. In addition, names with Arabic elements such as Aisyah, Meryam and Rayyan are also popular because they carry good meanings. This trend shows that parents currently tend to give names that are easy to remember, as well as carry beautiful meanings.

He said that the spelling of names has also changed with classic names such as Amir being spelled as Ameer and Zahra as Zara to be more modern. In addition, the longest name registered so far has 15 words while the shortest name contains two alphabets.

For purposes of lineage and rank, the NRD will take into account whether the title is indeed inherited from the family or not before allowing registration.
