Partial Solar Eclipse Phenomenon Expected to Occur on March 29, 2025

A Partial Solar Eclipse phenomenon is expected to occur on March 29, 2025 according to the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA). This eclipse will start at 4.50 pm to 8.43 pm Malaysian time, and can be seen in areas such as Northwest Africa, Europe and Russia.

However, it cannot be seen in Malaysia because the path of the moon's penumbra shadow does not pass through any area in Malaysia at that time. The penumbra is the partially dark outer shadow (the shadow of the Earth or the Moon). Malaysians are expected to be able to witness a Partial Solar Eclipse on August 2, 2027 and July 22, 2028.

For additional context, this phenomenon occurs when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth but is not fully aligned then blocks the sunlight either partially or completely making it appear like a crescent. It also occurs a day before the moon will be at its closest position to Earth at a distance of 358,123 km.
