Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that the digital systems of national airport operator MAHB were recently hacked, with the hacking group demanding a ransom of $10 million (~RM45 million).
He confirmed this during his speech at the 218th Police Day celebration in Kuala Lumpur this morning. He also said that this happened a day or two ago, and said that neither the government nor MAHB would give in to the ransom demand.
Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the government would allocate more funds to further strengthen the security of Malaysia’s cyber systems, but did not explain how this security system would be upgraded for now.
Details about the hacking attack are limited at this time, but from what can be seen on social media platforms, it appears that among the systems that were affected are the flight details display system, the check-in counter system and the passenger baggage handling system.
This disruption continued for 10 hours, and for now it appears that MAHB has yet to issue a statement regarding this hacking issue.
