Qualcomm recently announced a partnership with Google to extend update support for Android devices using their chips. According to Qualcomm, smartphones are now an essential part of people's daily lives. Because of this, devices with Snapdragon chips will support Android version updates and security patches for up to 8 years.
Qualcomm has partnered with Google to provide eight years of support with the Snapdragon 8 Elite being the first chip to receive it. All Snapdragon 8 and Snapdragon 7 chips that will be launched after this will also receive the same support after this. Previously, Qualcomm's failure to provide driver software support was used as the reason why Snapdragon devices did not receive long-term update support as the iPhone.
Device manufacturers now also no longer have a reason to offer 2+3 years, 2+5 years, 3+4 years, 4+5 years or 7 years of updates for their devices. If the device is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and above, there is a potential that it can be supported until after 2030. Let's wait and see, which Snapdragon devices launched this year will still receive updates by 2033.
