Redmi has recently launched a special smartwatch for kids. This comes after the Redmi wearables and watches collection has been seen to have attracted a lot of attention and are selling well as a cheaper alternative to the Xiaomi brand. The Redmi Kid Smartwatch is seen as possibly wanting to compete with imoo, a brand by BBK Electronics.
The Redmi Kid Smartwatch is seen as a better iteration of the Xiaomi Smart Kids Watch which is sold in Malaysia for around RM300. It comes with a 1.68-inch screen with a resolution of 360 x 390, has a built-in 5MP camera, SIM card support for mobile data and phone calls as well as GPS tracking, and basic watch features such as notifications, alarms and health monitoring.
The watch also supports AI-powered tracking features, where when the child's location is tracked - parents will receive reassuring notifications. The battery can last up to 3 days, it has waterproof protection to a depth of 20m, and a special WeChat is also provided for communication purposes. This watch is also loaded with features and content that can help children learn and revise.
Currently, the Redmi Kid Smartwatch is only sold in China for RMB599, which is around RM367. It is not certain if Xiaomi and Redmi will sell this watch to a wider market like Malaysia.
