Snapdragon 8s Elite May Be Launched as Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Qualcomm is back with its misleading naming scheme. The new Snapdragon 8s Elite flagship chip may not be happening. This is because Qualcomm may be using the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 name, making the ‘Snapdragon s’ series a new series of processors.

This could be a clever and confusing decision if Qualcomm only wants to use the Elite name for chips with Oryon CPUs, which this new chip does not have. You can imagine that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip will be positioned between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 8s Elite. The latest Digital Chat Station report is that this chip will come with a 4nm design by TSMC, using a configuration of 1x Cortex-X4 3.21GHz, 3x Cortex-A720 3.01GHz, 2x Cortex-A720 2.8GHz and 2x Cortex-A720 2.02GHz.

This chip will also have an Adreno 825 GPU which has fewer cores than the GPU on the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This chip is said to use the same ISP so the camera quality could be on par with premium flagship devices. Redmi, IQOO, Xiaomi and Oppo are among the first manufacturers to offer devices with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip.
