The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is currently the most powerful chip for smartphones in 2025. It has managed to outperform not only the Apple A18 Pro but also the Dimensity 9400. The new Oryon CPU is the key to the dramatic performance increase compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Qualcomm will soon launch the Snapdragon 8s Elite and leaked information shows that it will have lower performance than the 8 Elite.
This is because the 8s Elite will not be equipped with the Oryon CPU. Instead, the Cortex-X4 CPU used in the 8 Gen and 8s Gen will be used. The core configuration is 1x Cortex-X4, 3x Cortex-A720 and 4x Cortex-A520 and will use 4nm technology only. The performance increase lies only in the new Adreno 825 GPU compared to the 8 Gen 3 and 8s Gen 3.
Clearly, the Snapdragon 8s Elite is a chip that targets use in affordable premium devices. So far, the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro is reported to be the first device to use this chip. Based on our experience, the advantage of the 8 Elite is not only in high processing power but also in lower battery consumption due to the 3nm technology. So only time will tell whether recycling the technology in 2024 will bring results to the 8s Elite.
