Sony Tests AI Game Characters For PC And PlayStation

Over the past two years, we can see that generative artificial intelligence technology has also spread to the video game industry. Many companies and developers have been experimenting with non-playable characters or NPCs that are more interactive and lifelike. Most recently, Sony is also reported to be testing the same technology for their PlayStation video games.

In the now-deleted official video, Sony shows off Aloy from the Horizon Forbidden West game. This AI version of Aloy is seen to be able to chat with players while in the video game. The prototype of this AI character is seen to have a natural way of speaking and convincing facial expressions. Sony is said to be using its own technologies such as Mockingbird, OpenAI's GPT-4 public language model, Llama 3 and also Sony's own AI technology Emotional Voice Synthesis (EVS).

Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West is being tested on the PC game, but it is said that it can also be integrated into the PlayStation game. At the moment, it is just an early development project and it is not certain if it will be given to future users. Would you like to try interacting with the non-playable game character?
