Study – Married Men Are Three Times More Likely to Become Obese Than Single Men

There is a belief that men's weight will increase after becoming a husband. Scientists from the National Institute of Cardiology in Poland (NIKard) have conducted a scientific study on this phenomenon and have confirmed that there is a correlation between marital status and weight gain. The study involved 1098 male participants and 1307 female participants with a median age of 50 years.

Male participants had a 62% probability of becoming obese after marriage compared to female participants who only had a 39% probability. It was also found that married men were three times more likely to have overweight problems than single men. Married women also recorded an increase in weight after marriage but in line with single women.

This study paper will be presented at the European Congress on Obesity which will be held in Spain between 11-15 May. This study destroys the stereotype that women do not know how to "take care of their bodies" after becoming wives, when in reality, husbands have a higher frequency of becoming obese.
