E-paper or e-ink displays are commonly used in affordable devices or e-readers that promise low power consumption, making them very useful for electronic devices that want a display but don't want to need a large battery.
Recently, it has been reported that a company in China, Guangzhou Aoyi Electronic Technology Co Ltd, is collaborating with another company, Shenzhen Jin Yatai Technology Co Ltd, to develop an e-paper display that comes with a 31.2-inch display size.
The two companies are combining their expertise in developing display technology, image processing, and FPGA (field-programmable gate array) technology to produce a giant display that can not only display images, but also display video at a refresh rate of 18FPS.
This can be seen as something great because e-paper/e-ink displays usually come with a very low refresh rate that is not suitable for displaying video.
With this 31.2-inch e-paper display, it is reported that the two companies have optimized the display panel, in addition to using specific algorithms to display a brighter display with brighter color processing. The ability to refresh certain parts of the display also helps in the efficiency of the display's performance.
It is also reported that this e-paper screen display has already begun to be mass-produced, and will be introduced for various uses such as digital displays for shopping malls, bus stops, displays for public information and so on.
