AMD is now seen as the processor of choice for gamers when it comes to building powerful desktop gaming computers. Now, it seems they want to be the first choice for gaming laptops as well with the official announcement of their latest AMD Ryzen 8000HX processor, which comes with the codename Dragon Range Refresh.
The AMD Ryzen 8000HX processor comes in four offerings, including the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX, AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX, AMD Ryzen 7 8840HX and AMD Ryzen 7 8745HX. All of these processor models come with Hyper-Threading, and the most powerful model, the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX comes with 16 physical cores and 32 power threads with a Boost Frequency speed of up to 5.4GHz.
All of these processors are equipped with an AMD Radeon 610M graphics chip built into them, and come with a power consumption range of around 45W to 75W to ensure that these processors can all power the latest computer games.
The Dragon Range Refresh series of processors still uses the Zen 4 processor base and RDNA 2 graphics chip used in the previous AMD Ryzen 7000HX series of processors, with increased performance and efficiency in electrical power consumption, and possibly increased battery life.
For now, it is confirmed that this processor chip will be used in the ASUS ROG STRIX G16 laptop that will be launched this year, and is expected to be introduced to more gaming laptops in the future.
